Game Idea
To learn about AI and how to use it, I have decided to make a game that involves running away from the law. You are a thief who has just stolen some food for your starving family, and if the town police see you with your loot, they'll arrest you. To avoid detection, you'll have to run and hide from the police. The goal of the game is to make it back home without being detected.
-What is the core nugget of the design?
The core nugget of the design is avoiding being caught, whether it be through hiding from the AI or running away from them.
-Why might it be fun?
There's a sense of thrill that comes with escaping from danger. And avoiding being arrested is one such example of that. Thus, I feel like this game can provide a lot of suspense and thrill.
-Can you name a game that does this idea?
Metal Gear Solid is a great example of a game where the core objective is to not get caught. In it, you play as a secret agent who has to sneak around government bases to find intelligence, and you have to hide to avoid being spotted by enemies. Another example, albeit a very different one, is Temple Run, a mobile game I used to play when I was a young girl. It centers around having to run away from angry monkeys that want to eat you, and you have to avoid obstacles and not trip over them or else they'll catch up to you.
